Classroom Management Plan

Creating a respectful, structured, and supportive learning environment is essential for student success. My classroom management plan emphasizes preparation, positive behavior, and personal accountability, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to focus, grow, and thrive through music.

Rules:

  1. Always arrive on time with all necessary materials.
    (Consequence: Verbal Warning)

  2. Bring a pencil to class.
(Consequence: Verbal Warning, Possible Loss of Privileges)

  3. Do not be disruptive.
(Consequence: Verbal Warning → Loss of Privileges → Administrative Referral if necessary)

  4. Be good people.
(Consequence: Verbal Reminder; emphasis on building a positive community)

  5. No phones during class.
(Consequence: Phone will be confiscated for the remainder of the class)

Rationale:

  • I believe these rules provide a clear and simple framework for creating a smooth and productive class environment.

  • Always arriving on time with the necessary materials (instruments, music, pencils) is essential for maximizing rehearsal and class time. If students come unprepared, I will issue a verbal warning and encourage them to develop better organizational habits.

  • Bringing a pencil is non-negotiable in a music classroom. Students must be prepared to mark their music, take notes, and participate fully. Repeated failure to bring a pencil may result in the loss of certain privileges.

  • Disruptive behavior not only hinders a student’s own learning but impacts the entire ensemble or classroom. Minor disruptions will be addressed with verbal warnings. Continued issues may result in loss of privileges (such as assigned seating) and, if necessary, administrative intervention.

  • Being good people is a core value, not just a rule. I encourage students to be positive role models — helping each other, showing respect, and building a supportive community both inside and outside the classroom.

  • No phones during instruction is critical. While phones have important uses, in the classroom they are a major distraction. Students must keep phones away during class time. If a phone becomes a distraction, it will be confiscated until the end of class.
